Hi all, I have worn NHS supplied Hearing aids since 2010, due to a 50%
loss of High Frequency hearing.

I have just started using a Sarabec NL6 Hearing loop system, the loop
around my neck.

My NHS behind the ear Oticon Spirit Zest Hearing aids have been
adjusted at the Audiology clinic to their maximum sound level, but
the sound level is still a bit low with some TV programs or films.

Private Hearing aid suppliers say NHS aids are some years behind
modern advancements, If I were to go to a supplier for private custom
built aids that could cost around 2 to 3 Thousand pounds.
I can only really test them with the loop system at home.

Some firms offer a 1 month no quibble return policy, does that
actually happen?

I will really be stretching myself to buy them, and am worried that if
I buy them I might be saddled with them if there was no improvement .
Has anyone any experience or returning aids.

Thanks for reading,
Mick.

I've been lurking around here and various hearing-aid forums for a
long time and I've never heard anyone complaining about their hearing
aid supplier refusing to honour the return policy. Not to say it
doesn't happen, but I think most audiologists would be a bit more
protective of their reputation than that. Maybe ask to see their
policy in writing if you're concerned.

My take on this is, they say they are "tailor made" to suite me so
that is why I have to pay for them before I can try them!

Rather than "tailor made" I think they are adjusted to suite me
and if they were totally confident they would improve my hearing then
they could have a system where I pay a deposit and try them before
paying the total cost.

Mick.
I think that's pretty standard. You pay for the aids up front and get
your money refunded if you return them. It's mostly about them
minimising risk. The instruments aren't cheap as you know.

Good luck.
